BYRAM, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Some areas in the city of Byram still served by the Jackson water system have been experiencing problems over the past six months -- including water line breaks, loss in pressure, and having to boil their water.
Several people who live in subdivisions just off of Gary Road complained to 3 on Your Side about the spotty service. Brian Gainey of Glen Oaks Circle called us to report complete loss of water service.
"It goes out like it did last night with no explanation," he says. "In the past they have issued a boil-water notice for all of Davis Road, but none of Gary Road, and our water was out the same. So we don't understand whether we need to boil water or not."
Gainey's across-the-street neighbor, Leonard Knowles, has also been having water problems recently.
"They need to give us a little more notice when the water is going to be out, if possible," Knowles said. "There are some times that they don't know that, but about five times in the last six months we have never had one notice."
We went to Chris Mims, spokesman for the City of Jackson, which still operates the water system in Byram. Mims was aware of the problem and promised it would be fixed.
"We have had several breaks down in that area, and I would assume that's what caused those people to be without water," Mims said. "We make every effort when there is going to be some water disruption, but perhaps we could to a better job of that, if that is occurring down there."
