JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jarrod Emerson made his initial appearance on murder charges in Jackson Municipal Court Friday. Emerson is charged in the murder of his cousin Nolan Ryan Henderson, at the Palisades apartments near Jackson State.

Emerson accidentally shot Henderson, when he arrived at the apartments armed, to confront people at a party for out-going football players, who assaulted his cousin earlier.

Bond was denied for Emerson. Court officials also said Emerson owed $762.50 in back traffic fines.

He will return to court for a bond hearing in 10 days.

Lee Frison the attorney for the Henderson family, and Winston Thompson, Emerson's attorney escorted family members from both sides from the courtroom.

Thompson addressed the media saying, "At this time were going to allow the Ryan family to grieve.  Were going to go forward with the funeral arrangements, and we will deal with the murder charge as it works it's way through the criminal system."

Henderson's funeral is set for Saturday at Noon, at Anderson United Methodist Church.
