Motorist hits man pushing wheelchair

A pedestrian has been killed and another injured in an afternoon accident on I-55 West Frontage Road. The accident occurred when a motorist hit a man pushing a woman in a wheelchair.

They were walking along Frontage Road in the turn lane in front of Captain D's.

Officer Colendula Green says the driver of the 2000 Honda Accord had fled an accident scene in the Big Lot's parking lot and was weaving in and out of traffic. He's in custody but no charges have been file.

Police haven't identified the victims. The man, a 50-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old woman is hospitalized in serous condition.
