Madison couple pleads guilty to fraud

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Madison couple pleads guilty in a real estate investment scheme to defraud two Norwegian real estate investors.

In federal court Thursday 49-year-old Demetrius Mathis pleaded guilty to wire fraud and his wife, 45-year-old Jacqueline Mathis pleaded guilty to money laundering.

The couple received 25,000 Earnest money for the purchase of an apartment complex in Arkansas, but diverted the funds for their personal benefit.

As part of their pleas, both defendants agreed to a preliminary order to forfeit their Madison home where they operated their investment services business.
