JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Fifty-seven groups from across the state are competing in the Mississippi Indoor Association's Circuit Championships.
The teams consist of percussionists that do a little bit more than beat a drum.
There's footwork and synchronicity involved.
The teams came in on buses, and have been competing since early this morning.
They've spent long, hard hours practicing.
"They do these activities in conjunction with their normal band activities at their school. Most of these ensembles are members of the band," said Mickey Mangum, Executive Director of the Outdoor Association. "They practice outside of school time."
After the percussionists, winter color guard teams were scheduled to perform.
