JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The State Department of Transportation wants to keep you safe while driving.

On Saturday, the agency threw a safety fair at the Mississippi Trademart.

Lots of simulators and bicycle activities kept young ones busy, and also introduced them to some of the hazards they will encounter when it's time for them to drive.

Hundreds came out to meet the crash test dummies, and to watch the rollover simulator.

It's a real eye-opener for kids and adults.

"I saw that dummy get flipped out of the car," said Darius Tyler of Jackson. "It wasn't safe at all. It's because he didn't have a seat belt on."

"Our text and drive simulator, kinda neat, DUI simulator, and a whole bunch of informational stuff," said Christy Milbourne, Safety Programs Coordinator for MDOT.

Outside the fair, children had their safety seats checked

If their seats were too small, they got a new one.
