CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One woman was able to escape with her life after her home went up in flames early Sunday morning.

Firefighters received a call at approximately 4:19 a.m. to a house fire at 507 Trailwood Drive in Clinton. When several fire units arrived on scene they were met with huge flames bursting through the structure's roof.

The woman who has not been identified was alone inside when smoke detectors alerted her of danger. It took firefighters 3 and a half hours to extinguish the fire.

Chief Jeff Blackledge, the Division Chief of Training and Safety, says large trees around the property makes it somewhat of a problem for firefighters trying to battle the blaze.

"Well it was bad the trees hamper you from being able to get in and set up a ladder truck if you need to. And just the way this house is situated down in the those trees with the flames shooting up in these trees it does make it difficult," said Chief Blackledge.

Investigators were on scene but have not determined the cause of the fire. It is still under investigation.
