Entergy works to restore power

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Entergy and their subcontractors are clearing tree limbs from power lines in Belhaven Heights. Nearly 200 customers in apartments and residences are without power, but a supervisor says it should be restored soon.

At the peak, there were 24,000 outages statewide.  Most had their power restored by daybreak.

In Madison, part of Main street had to be closed near Highway 51, after a power line and several poles were knocked down.

One pole landed on a car, trapping a woman inside during the height of the storm.  She was able to escape without injury, with the help of first responders and linemen.

Keith Evans who manages the Smoothie King across the street says, "It just narrowly missed hitting the entire car full on the hood, she's very fortunate."

Several restaurants and businesses remained closed for much of Tuesday while crews worked to restore the power.

At the McAlisters Deli, the perishable items were removed from the freezer and placed in a refrigerated truck.

There are still 3,740 without power in Attala, Hinds, and Madison counties.
