HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Investigators have released the identities of a couple found fatally shot inside a home in Hinds county Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies were called to the scene at 4812 Highway 27 in Utica around one o'clock.

Hinds County Sheriff's Department Capt. Joseph Daughtry said a process server saw feet through a window of the house and alerted authorities.

Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart said 50 year old Barbara Raines was shot once in the face.

Fifty seven year old Robert Varnum suffered a single gunshot wound to the neck.

Authorities said both lived at the residence.

The coroner said their bodies appear to have been in the house for about two days.

Tuesday evening Leonard Walker stopped by the rural ranch style house to check on Varnum.

Walker told WLBT that Varnum was a machinist who worked with him at Cameron Letourneau in Vicksburg.

"Yesterday morning there was no call, no show, same thing this morning. Out of concern I said I'd just ride down and see what's what...We felt something might have been going on with no call, no show. That wasn't like him," said Walker.
