RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The body of a woman found Tuesday in Rankin County may be that of a missing person from Pelahatchie.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the body of a white female in her late forties/early fifties was discovered off Andrew Chapel Road.

According to the Sheriff, a missing persons report was filed with Pelahatchie Police Sunday for an unidentified white female.

Later that day, the woman's vehicle was found near Shiloh Road on fire.

Pelahatchie Police asked Rankin County for their help in the investigation.

Their search led them to a trailer on Andrew Chapel Road Tuesday.

"While they were interviewing the occupant of the home one of the investigators noticed the brush had been beaten down and followed a trail in the woods and found what he believed was a shallow grave like some recent digging there. A quick probe of the area did reveal a human body buried there," said Sheriff Bailey.

The Sheriff would not confirm the body found was that of the missing woman from Pelahatchie.

Authorities from the state crime lab are on the scene to help identify the body and the cause of death.
