A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for 3PM for parts of southeast Mississippi. Large hail and damaging straight-line winds are possible with any severe storms in this area through mid-afternoon.
Counties included in the watch are Covington, Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Lincoln, Simpson, and Smith.
A line of severe storms moved through early Thursday morning, just in time for the morning rush hour. One storm prompted a Tornado Warning for Yazoo and Madison counties. There was a report of a possible tornado by a storm spotter near Little Yazoo, but no damage was reported. There were numerous reports of hail across Madison County.
Many residents across central Mississippi witnessed the dark, scary looking cloud that came through with the storms. This was a shelf cloud, which often forms just ahead of a line of storms. The shelf cloud is not related to a tornado, even though it looked quite scary.
The risk for storms will end this afternoon and quiet weather will return for Easter weekend.
