JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Seventy-two golf carts are without batteries at the Grove Park golf course. Thieves cut locks to gain entrance where the carts were stored sometime Wednesday night.
Golfer Joseph Thompson says, "It's very upsetting because this is where I enjoy myself and this is going to deter us from playing. Several people had to stop play today because no batteries in the carts."
Teed off golfers vented their frustration with Mayor Harvey Johnson. Just recently they also suffered a golf cart theft.
"It's aggravating to the city, it's aggravating to the golfers that's why I'm here right now to assure them were going to work to make sure that play continues," says Johnson.
The battery thieves cut several locks to gain access, breaking a heavy metal gate in the process.
Thursday afternoon Jackson police got a break in the case, recovering 79 stolen batteries at cash for batteries on Terry Road, and 20 batteries at the Can Man on Valley Street.
Investigators are reviewing a surveillance tape of the crime, and believe 3 suspects are responsible, and that they may have hit another golf course as well.
