OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - Construction started this week on the new Shearwater Park that is next to the Shearwater Bridge and overlooks the Jackson County Harbor.
The park is scheduled to be completed by early June.
The new park will include a walking trail, seating and a bird watching platform.
The Historic Ocean Springs Association members will plant and maintain native plants at the patio area, which will be dedicated as a memorial to the late John Blossman.
Development of the park is being funded primarily through grants. The land was purchased in 2010 with funds from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Mitigation Hazard Grant, which is designated for the purchase of properties vulnerable to natural disasters and severe weather.
