Friday, we found a 44-year-old man who says he's riding his bicycle across America. Joe Sorrendino had been living in Arizona until he lost his job in the lumber business. So, he decided to ride cross country because he didn't have anything better to do.
Sorrendino travels with his three year old dog, which is part pit bull. Ami, rides in an infant trailer behind the bike. He says his first priority is keeping her fed and watered.
It is a very light, high quality Diamond back bike he uses. Sorrendino has ridden from Arizona to Savannah, Georgia. He says this is the best way to see America.
"We live in a great country and we slowly but surely are having some of our freedoms eroded" said Sorrendino. "I am not political. I don't care. It's gonna happen the way it's gonna happen. I really think we have the greatest country in the world. And it provides us with every opportunity that we could possibly want. You can do as much or as little as you want to in this country."
He says his identification was stolen from him and he hasn't figured out how to get new id without a birth certificate, which he would have to get from Michigan, so he can't get a job.
He spent 8 years as an army ranger, in the third battalion of the 75th ranger regiment from Fort Benning, Georgia.
He says he will offer to sweep a parking lot for a hamburger and it usually works. He also gets money sent to him from a friend, along the way.
It took Sorrendino seven months to ride from Arizona to Savannah, Georgia. Now, he's heading back to Arizona.
