JPD's Operation Bunny Hop in full swing

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Criminals were being put on notice in the Jackson metro area Friday night.

The Jackson Police Department has teamed up with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department for Operation Bunny Hop to increase visibility and target what they call hot spots.  Officers met at Precinct 3 on West Northside Drive to get their assignments for the night.

The operation began Thursday night with check points and a concentration of officers inside city limits and in Hinds County.

JPD Chief Rebecca Coleman says they have proof that more visibility leads to a decrease in crime.

"There were many arrests made, DUI's, tickets written and some people did go to jail as a result of various things from outstanding warrants that may have been on file. That's another aspect of this operation is that we're serving felony warrants as well," Chief Coleman stated.

Operation Bunny Hop will continue through the weekend.

Sheriff Tyrone Lewis and Chief Coleman say the cooperative effort will be ongoing with the two departments to promote safety.
