JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Tougaloo College celebrates a decade of providing scholarships to needy students through a yearly star studded the 10th Annual Two Rivers Gala was filled with glitz, glamour and the smooth sounds of rhythm and blues.
The fun black tie event was underway at the Jackson Medical Mall. It features musical performances by headliner Eric Benet, Mississippi's own Eddie Cotton and The Cotton Club, as well as BET comedian Steve Brown.
Tougaloo alumni started the gala to raise scholarship funding. Officials say 90 percent of the students who attend the liberal arts college receive some form of financial aid.
"A very large percentage of the physicians in this state got their first degrees at Tougaloo, some 33% of African Americans. Same thing with law , with scholars," said Dr. Bettye Parker-Smith, Tougaloo College Provost.
