Body found likely that of missing man

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The investigation into a body found at a Jackson park continues. Police believe it is the remains of a Jackson man who disappeared earlier this month.

Police describe the body found in Butt's Park as badly decomposed, and appearing to have been there for a week.

"Preliminary investigation reveals an unidentified black male was found deceased" said Officer Colendula Green of the Jackson Police Department. "His body is badly decomposed. Were not sure on how long he's been in this area. A citizen who was walking the grounds noticed his body and notified police."

The discovery of the body is likely an answer to 29-Year-Old Johnny Chambers mysterious disappearance which occurred also one week ago.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart says clothing and tattoo's found on the body, match those Chambers had on.

Chambers' family says armed men driving a white Nissan forced him from a home in west Jackson.

His Mother Mary Chambers says, "They put my son in the car took off so fast like to tear her mailbox up. My nephew said he heard a gunshot and when he came to the door wasn't nobody there."

An autopsy showed the victim died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

The Chambers family confident it's their missing loved one, because of a key ring found on the victim, also belonging to chambers. D-N-A or dental records will now be used to help identify this man found in the park.

It could take several days for those test results, to be returned.
