JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2011 hit and run death of a man in the parking lot of Smith-Willis Stadium.
Julius Lamont Reed, Jr. entered the plea Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court. Reed was initially charged with capital murder in the death of 52-year-old Franklin Salas of Vicksburg.
Authorities say Salas was run over after he interrupted the burglary of his own car on June 12, 2010.
Reed was sentenced to 20 years for manslaughter, a total of 14 years under two separate indictments for auto burglary and nine years with one to serve for a receiving stolen goods charge. The sentences are consecutive for a total of 35 years.
