BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Three Gulf Coast businesses have completed training to strengthen hiring practices regarding illegal immigrants.
Raymond R. Parmer Jr. with the U.S. Customs and Enforcement in New Orleans tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/HwK1me ) the businesses signed agreements to protect the integrity of their workforce by participating in the IMAGE program and using E-Verify to check applicants' eligibility to work in the U.S.
The businesses are VT Halter Marine, United States Marine and DCD Construction.
The IMAGE program helps businesses train their staffs in ways to screen employees to make sure they are authorized to work. The Web-based program is free.
E-Verify links to the Social Security Administration database and Department of Homeland Security immigration records.
