Six people were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after what first appeared to be a kidnapping.
It ended at the Clinton-Raymond Road exit off Interstate 20 in Hinds County, where the group was handcuffed and taken away in patrol cars.
Earlier in the day, according to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, the group was fighting in the parking lot of the Texaco gas station in Bovina. A clerk reported that one of the six pulled someone into a silver Nissan and drove off toward Jackson.
The Nissan and another car were stopped a short time later on I-20. Sheriff Pace says there was no abduction, but the group cause an unnecessary disturbance.
"You can't act out like that at a business," he said. "Whatever differences they have they need to settle them some other place and in a different manner. You can't have a fight in the parking lot of a business, create a huge disturbance that essentially shuts the business down for a period of time and not expect some consequences."
The five adults are being charged with disturbing the peace and could face additional charges. The sixth person in the group was a minor.
Pace said the Hinds County Sheriff's Department was having the two cars towed to a safe location.
