JPS Superintendent Finalists Meet With Parents

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The two finalists for Jackson Superintendent were taken to school Wednesday night as they met with parents, board members, and concerned citizens.

Dr. Dennis Carpenter, and Dr. Cedrick Gray answered questions submitted by the audience on cards at Galloway Elementary School.

Questions ranged from how to improve the image of the school system, to accreditation problems and the dropout rate. Carpenter and Gray say it is important to address discipline without pushing students into the criminal justice system by finding the root of problems and addressing them.

School board members were scheduled to meet Wednesday night after the forum which ended shortly before nine.

Late Wednesday night, we were told board members have made tentative plans to make site visits to the school districts where both candidates now work in Georgia and Tennessee.  Also, a meeting has been set tentatively for April 24th to make a decision on the new leader.
