New developments have surfaced in a five-week-old unsolved triple murder out of Jefferson Davis County.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations says they have the gunman in custody.

The man arrested in the murders even has a name that insinuates gun violence. Roger 'Hitman' Jones, 24, charged with three counts of capital murder.

The victims, Roland Smith, 48, and his parents Arvin, 80, and Maxine, 74, all gunned down in their home on T.W. Bass Road in the Carson community south of Prentiss on March 2nd.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain says, "It's been a very intense investigation done with the highway patrol, the MBI division, the 15th Judicial District, the District Attorney in the area down there, so it's been a very intense 5 and a half weeks in the investigation."

Details of how Jones became a suspect in the case are being withheld. He was already in jail on other charges.

The motive is also a mystery. At the time of the murder, relatives of the Smith family thought Roland Smith's past criminal history had caught up with him.

The day of the murder, relative Gregg Dyess told us, "From the information we gathered it was drug related, not so much with my uncle and aunt, but it was drug related."

Computers and guns were taken from the Smith home as part of the investigation.  The highway patrol S.W.A.T. team also served a high risk warrant at 314 Cedar Grove Road, a known hub for drug activity.

State officials say the investigation is ongoing.
