"Escape artist" back in Hinds County Jail, for now

Posted: Updated:

An inmate, considered dangerous and on run for two days is back behind bars Thursday at the Hinds County Detention Center. We are told they still have no idea how Nathaniel Brent managed to escape.

36-year old Nathaniel Brent was arrested after a foot chase in Jackson last night. Shortly before 9:30 Wednesday night a citizen called in a tip. Brent was spotted in the vicinity of Windsor Drive in Jackson.

He broke out of the detention center Tuesday morning.

The inmate was injured as he fought with deputies. Captain Joseph Daughtry told me Thursday he fought like a man who did not want to return to jail.

He was serving time on sexual battery and domestic violence charges. The escapee has a long rap sheet of violent crimes including rape dating back to 2001. It includes rape and possession of cocaine.

This was the second time Brent has broken out of jail. He escaped from the detention center in 2003 through an unlocked door. He broke out again Tuesday morning.
