JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
For at least 14 years now, there have been public discussions about extending County Line Road where it dead ends at the Canadian National Railroad tracks at North State Street on both sides of the railroad, County Line Road comes to a dead end.
Opening up the road, so it goes under the tracks has been a long time dream.
The City of Jackson, strapped for cash, is trying to get some federal funding to help pay for the project and to buy some additional right of way necessary to complete the project.
Dr. Beverly Hogan, President of Tougaloo College, would like to see the problem resolved.
"They need 8.5 million dollars to complete that project. And last year when they made application for some federal funds, the federal funds were not forthcoming. So they are continuing to try to get the dollars that are needed to connect West County Line Road with East County Line Road, elevating the railroad track and putting the road underneath.
Dr. Hogan hopes Jackson can complete the project in the next two years.
