JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson State is spending spring camp looking for a new quarterback.
Senior Dedric McDonald took the snaps with the first at Saturday's Blue and White spring game on the campus of Jackson State.
The Morton native connected with Rico Richardson on a touchdown pass in just the third play from scrimmage.
He would complete three touchdowns on the day.
McDonald is competing with former Callaway star Mark Thigpen for the QB position.
Thigpen impressed the coaches with his wheels on Saturday.
He had one rushing touchdown on the day.
In the end, the spring game was a mixed bag for coach Rick Comegy.
"I'm fifty-fifty on the game today. I saw some good things but yet still I saw some things I was hoping not to see. I thought the quarterbacks, all three quarterbacks, rose in the game today. It wasn't pretty but I saw the difference in how they played in this type of game situation. I think we can win with them," said Comegy.
