BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A Jackson man faces one count of aggravated assault, carjacking, kidnapping and felony eluding after a series of incidents Sunday morning, officials said.

Gulfport police said 29-year-old Darrion Donte Tyler of Jackson was driving a stolen 2009 black Chevrolet Impala erratically when he allegedly struck a man, who was reportedly walking to work on the northbound lane of Hwy 49.

Police said, a Good Samaritan, who was also on her way to work, stopped to help the man who was hit. However, once she stopped, Tyler allegedly started yelling, physically assaulted her and then stole her 2004 red Chevrolet Impala while she was inside.

Tyler reportedly fled the area and headed towards Dedeaux Road. When traffic started to back up, the victim was able to jump out of the car while the car was moving at a speed of 45 mph.

As Tyler headed east to Lorraine Road then south, he allegedly almost struck officers who were patrolling the area.

When an officer tried to stop Tyler, he reportedly fled into Biloxi, where he later crashed the car.

He was arrested and taken into custody and transported to the Gulfport Police Department.

Gulfport Captain Neal Stachura said, both victims were transported to an area hospital for non-threatening life injuries.

Tyler was released to Biloxi Police for more charges. His bond was set at $600,000 ($150,000 per count), by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner.
