JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
One Hinds County supervisor is ready to address ongoing issues at the Hinds County Jail.
District 5 Supervisor Kenneth Stokes says an unsigned letter from an employee and other complaints sparked the most recent discussion.
He says jail doors aren't locking and inmates can walk out of their cells, creating safety concerns which may have sparked unrest inside the jail.
Stokes hopes there is cash in the budget to make the necessary repairs.
"Let's fix it quickly, now. Whatever it takes to fix it permanently let's do that. Then, let's open the lines of communication about whether we need a new jail," said Stokes.
The county supervisor says jail repairs are on the supervisors' agenda to discuss at Monday morning's meeting.
