SIMPSON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Lawmen in Simpson County are vowing to bring out additional manpower and resources to stop a rash of frightening armed robberies. Five businesses have been hit in the past few weeks, all at closing time.

The night managers were ambushed. These crimes were brought to our attention by a concerned 3 on Your Side viewer.

Hooded armed robbers targeted the China Buffet in Magee Monday night.

The last worker to leave was ambushed at gunpoint. Now others are concerned.

Ashleigh Evans, a Simpson County resident said, "It's pretty scary like I said living here in a small town you are supposed to be safe and no problems whatsoever. But that's something you don't want to think about. They could put a gun to your head and take everything so we are taking major precautions to make sure we are okay."

The similar holdups happened at the Pizza Hut and Sonic. In Mendenhall, the owner a tobacco shop was held up after closing April 3rd.

"These guys are waiting outside, usually in the woods or hiding behind something. They run out on them with a gun and they basically stick the gun in your face and say give me your money," said Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis.

Tuesday afternoon, lawmen met and vowed to crackdown. Those who work in small businesses remain on edge.

The Subway in Mendenhall was also targeted.

Employees we talked to say they are all taking extra precautions.  Meanwhile, police have very good leads with two men in custody and surveillance video.
