Police are still trying to track down the gunman, who fired shots at a state trooper at Metrocenter Mall.
The shooter has been identified as 26-year-old Wilbert Coleman. It happened just around 11:45 Friday morning, in the east parking lot outside Burlington Coat Factory.
The Highway Patrol says a trooper approached Coleman when he saw him attempt to rob an elderly female. Coleman, drew a revolver and fired at least two shots at the trooper. The trooper fired back.
Coleman fled in a green Buick onto Highway 80, where he ran on foot after getting a flat tire.
Witnesses say he ran north, then disappeared behind the Beauty Supply Warehouse.
Jackson Police, Hinds County Deputies and Metro One assisted in a search, but they were unable to find him.
"Right now we have at least one female person of interest in custody, we want to talk to. We recovered a weapon in the vehicle. Were going to check it to determine if it was the weapon that was used in what we believe to be an attempted armed robbery," said Deputy Chief Eric Walls, with JPD.
Erica Johnson, 21, was taken into custody and charged with armed robbery.
An armed robbery warrant has been issued for Wilbert Coleman.
If you have any information on his whereabouts call Jackson Police.
