It is becoming a You Tube sensation. A Mississippi native has written a song to help raise money to aid military families. Olivia Perez-Breland always dreamed of being on Broadway. She's hoping her song will become an anthem for those who know the pain and sacrifice of deployment.
Olivia Perez- Breland has always been an entertainer. Her mother, Susan Hogan taught for Jackson Public Schools and Tougaloo College, and her father, Colin Hogan has been a musician for over 40 years. In addition to Power APAC she also earned a scholarship in high school to attend the prestigious Idyllwild Arts Academy in California.
"She was the first Mississippi High school student to be accepted out there", said Susan Hogan.
This song, now featured on You Tube could put Breland's name in lights. She wrote it in tribute to the thousands of military families who are separated by war and conflicts around the world.
"I'm very proud and we're tremendously impressed by the response to the video", said Colin Hogan.
"She didn't like singing in front of crowds though. She just you know, she was embarrassed, she was timid, shy. But she's overcome that now", Susan Hogan said.
Perez-Breland knows the life style first hand. She is an army wife. We talked with her by phone about the song.
"You know I know the strain, I know what that feels like so I just felt inspired to write this song", Perez-Breland said.
Perez-Breland is a self taught musician who did most of the work on this song, including the video that was shot on the base in Hawaii. Part of the proceeds will be donated to Fisher House Foundation, a group that provides housing for family members of injured or sick service members.
So far more there have been more than 8,000 views on You Tube in four days.
