Warrior Dash comes to Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The world's largest running series came to the Magnolia State Saturday for the first time as thousands of people took to a unique course for an extreme physical and mental challenge of endurance and will power.

If you consider yourself a warrior... worthy of any obstacle in front of you, then Saturday was your day to prove it!!!

It's called appropriately the Warrior Dash and it's an obstacle filled 5K. Brave and adventurous competitors have to go through mud, crawl under barbed wire and jump over fire and so on.

A total of 14 obstacles stand in the way of the athletes during the course of the event. More than nine thousand competitors hit the course at the Mississippi Off Road Adventures looking for an intense challenge.

And once you make it through, there is a big party at the finish line with music and food.

But it's tough getting to that finish line!

"A lot more difficult than I thought it was going to be. It took me quite a while to get through it but great obstacles, very challenging," said Jason Dean, a Madison resident.

"It was challenging, I wish I would have trained a little more for it. You can't train for mud though. It was good, I'd do it again if they come back.", added Jackson resident Tony Fell.

The event raised more than $70,000 for St. Jude Children's Hospital.
