JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A pedestrian was hit and hospitalized after being struck by a car Sunday afternoon in west Jackson.

J.P.D. responded to the scene around one p.m. on Shaw Road near the intersection of Burch Street.

Witnesses said the male victim was walking on Shaw Road when a gold Buick Park Avenue rounded the corner and struck him.

The unidentified pedestrian is estimated to be possibly in his late teens or early twenties.

He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody.

There was an open container inside the car.

Further investigation and toxicology testing will determine if the accident was alcohol related.
