JPS board visiting supt. finalists' school districts

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Public School District could have a new leader in a week. Four school board members visited Fayette County, Tennessee Monday.  

Dr. Cedrick Gray is currently the superintendent there and one of two candidates hoping to fill the spot in Jackson.  

The same board members will visit the Newton County School System in Georgia Monday, where Dr. Dennis Carpenter is a deputy superintendent. 

In executive session Tuesday night, a meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, May 1st. Board members will then choose between Gray and Carpenter or start all over. 

The new superintendent will replace interim Superintendent, Dr. Jayne Sargent.
