Sixth graders donate thousands to children in need

Posted: Updated:

Saving pennies has gone a long way for some very generous Northwest Rankin Middle School students. Sixth graders raised $6,000 for "The Little Light House" in Brandon. Students presented the check on Thursday morning. "The Little Light House" is a free developmental center for young children with special needs. The money raised by the sixth graders will help with therapy services and assistive technology.

"I want to tell people that it's a really great thing that you can donate money to and if you have any spare change you can come up here and give it to them so they can get more classrooms if they can," said sixth grader Emily-Ann Mathis.

In addition to the check donation, the sixth graders also made classroom materials for students at "The Little Light House."
