18-year-old Skylar has been singing since she was about 4. She even wowed crowds at the Mississippi State Fair as a teenager. Stardom was destined to be in her future! A songbird that has now captivated the nation with her voice and range.
A viewing party was held in her hometown of Brandon Wednesday night.
Her sister, Blair Harden, was in the packed crowd at Brandon City Hall and said, "I see so many people supporting her just because of where she is from and also people that don't even know her family and stuff, that didn't even know she was related to us, are saying she was their favorite before they even knew that."
The competition is going down to the wire. In a town noted for it's beauty and beautiful ladies, like Miss America Mary Ann Mobley, fans are idolizing Skylar. Signs of support are everywhere, even inside small businesses. Folks in Brandon are ready for Skylar Laine to return to her home town as the next American Idol.
John Boothe, a big fan said, "I like her country best to be honest with you. She reminds me a lot of Reba McIntyre."
At Applebee's Restaurant, the marquee says it all, a business well associated with Brandon's rising star. Angela Brown, the general manager told us Skylar came in the restaurant before when everyone was doing karaoke.
"This same girl that sang in our restaurant is on American Idol and we are real excited to support her," said Brown.
While other talents have been eliminated and sent home. Everyone agrees, Skylar's future is bright and Idol's national exposure will propel her to the next level as a young superstar.
