JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi lawmakers are at the Capitol this weekend trying to finish their work on a state budget for the coming year.
Negotiators on Friday agreed on details of a $5.6 billion spending plan for fiscal 2013, which begins July 1.
Spending will be reduced for most state agencies but will increase slightly for elementary and secondary schools and community colleges.
Final versions of more than 100 budget bills are being considered starting Saturday. Legislators are also expected to meet for at least a short time on Sunday.
Members of the House and Senate have a Monday deadline to approve the final versions of budget and revenue bills. The four-month session is scheduled to end in early May.
