A child and an adult were injured when shots were fired Saturday afternoon in north Jackson.

JPD Officer Colendula Green says police responded to the shooting shortly before 5 p.m. in the 6600 block of Lake Glen Drive.

Green says a five-year-old girl was grazed on the leg by a bullet.

An unidentified 20-year-old woman was also shot in the left arm.

Both were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say one of the victims lived at the residence.

Jackson Police have charged 52-year-old Laura Dent with aggravated assault and possession of a stolen firearm.

"We're trying to determine a motive. It was some kind of altercation that took place outside the residence which resulted in two people, one person being shot then a child being grazed.

Another woman who was taken into custody at the scene is still being held for questioning.
