Man in standoff hospitalized for mental evaluation

Posted: Updated:
MADISON COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Madison County man remains hospitalized undergoing a mental evaluation following a five hour standoff with deputies Friday.

William Tommy Chisholm,35,  held authorities at bay inside his home in the 100 block of Creekside Drive in the Harvey Crossing Subdivision.

Madison County Sheriff's Department spokesman Heath Hall said Chisholm's mother asked deputies to check on her son.

According to investigators, Chisholm came to the door and pulled a rifle on the deputy.

That led to a multi-agency response and lock down of the area.

Chisholm was alone when deputies ended the ordeal by firing two rounds of tear gas into the home.

Authorities said the ordeal ended without any shots being fired or anyone being injured.

The standoff is believed to have been the result of a dispute with his wife who was not at the residence.
