Woman escapes as car burns on I-55

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Hinds County driver watched as her car went up in smoke Sunday afternoon.

The unidentified female driver of a maroon Chevrolet Impala says the car started making a funny noise about 5 p.m.

When she pulled over, near the "Stack" on I-55, smoke started coming out from under the hood.

The driver of an 18-wheeler pulled over to help, but the Jackson Fire Department eventually put out the flames.

The vehicle is a total loss. The driver of the Impala was not injured.
