JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

In light of Tuesday's tragic death of Pearl Police investigator Mike Walter who was shot-and-killed while serving a warrant, law enforcement officials across the state are sharing in the grief.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Corporal Odis Easterling sat down with Katina Rankin and Brandon Artiles on the WLBT A.M. Report Wednesday to discuss the impact this tragedy has on the entire law enforcement community.

"This is just a tragedy and it saddens my heart," Easterling said.

Easterling, who's been with the MHP for 12 years talked about the hardships of the job especially in the aftermath of losing someone in the line of duty.

"It's tough, it's a day-by-day struggle anytime something like this happens," Easterling said. "You have to reach way down and depend on the people around you."

Easterling said they lean on prayer, family and support to survive these trials, but above-all-else it takes times.

"That's pretty much the healer, time," Easterling said.
