CLINTON, MS (WLBT) - A Clinton High School athlete is moving on to the SEC.
Arrow senior, A.J. Ward, signed a track scholarship with Mississippi State Wednesday.
Ward is ranked third in the nation in the long jump.
He says he signed with the Bulldogs because of the young competition currently at the school.
"Every kid's dream when they are growing up is to sign with a college and eventually go pro and I finally know what that feels like. One of the main reasons I chose State is because they have a freshman long jumper that's jumping further than what I am. Over these next four years I hope to work with him and learn something from him and my real goal is to go up there and beat him," said Ward.
Ward plans to major is Kinesiology.
