RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson man was arrested Thursday and charged with capital murder and armed robbery in the Monday shooting death of a Ridgeland man.

Ridgeland police say 22-year-old Robert Carson of Jackson has been charged in connection with the murder of 61-year-old Jose G. Ortiz.

Ortiz suffered a single gunshot wound in his vehicle outside his apartment at the Ridgeland Ranch apartment complex late Monday night.

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from Ortiz at the time of his murder.

Carson was identified as a suspect and evidence led to his charges, according to police.

Police said there could possibly be additional suspects, but it's unclear if more arrests will be made.

Carson made an initial appearance in Ridgeland Municipal Court Friday. He is being held in the Madison County jail without bond. He will have a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
