The founder of the Rainbow Push Coalition was in the Capital City Sunday night working to establish an affiliate chapter in the state.
Reverend Jesse Jackson participated in a roundtable discussion with state and local elected officials as well as religious and business leaders.
The event was held Sunday evening at New Jerusalem Church's north campus.
The Civil Rights Activist discussed inequity among minorities in receiving jobs and state contracts, voter ID and stand your ground legislation as well as violence and racial profiling.
"For the purpose of this quest for justice. The south I think has made tremendous progress in the last few years. We are realizing our dreams, but he dream of our working together is now under assault," Rev. Jackson said.
"We want to have a voice here in the state of Mississippi. I think we have to come together look at what the issues are so we can speak, a unified voice, that can make a difference for all people," added Dr. Dwayne Pickett, New Jerusalem Church minister.
Jackson hopes to form an affiliate organization to connect with those in Memphis and Arkansas.
