MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) - A community in McComb wants city approval to block off two blocks and drink alcohol on public property.
Rose Martin asked city officials to block off the area in the Burglund community on June 16 for what is described as a community gathering or reunion of current and former residents.
She wants permission for people to purchase beer from two businesses in the area and drink it on public property.
The request follows the city's Ironwood Market event, which allowed for beer sales and consumption in the downtown area for a designated time.
However, citing the city's ban on public consumption, Mayor Whitney Rawlings advised selectmen to exercise caution in approving the request.
A decision could come this week.
