Vicksburg police say the body of a man suspected in the death of his ex-wife was found in the Vicksburg City Cemetery.
Police had been searching for 44-year-old Charles Truitt after his ex-wife Mary Ann Truitt was found dead Monday morning.
Vicksburg Chief of Police Walter Armstrong says Mary Ann Truitt was bludgeoned to death with an ax. The murder weapon has been recovered.
Armstrong said Charles Truitt committed suicide. Family members say he hanged himself in the cemetery using a seatbelt he cut out of a vehicle.
Mary Ann Truitt's son discovered her body at her home on Lightcap Blvd just before 6 a.m. Her car was missing. It was found wrecked and abandoned at the Vicksburg City Cemetery, where Charles Truitt was later found.
Police say Mary Ann Truitt had recently divorced her husband and he was supposed to move out of the home Monday.
Mary Ann Truitt filed a protective order against her husband last year, but she had allowed him to move back in, according to Armstrong.
