JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Across the nation Sunday mom received flowers and candy, calls and special gathering held in her honor.
This Mother's Day was full of celebration and memories for families to get the chance to say thank you.
Bravo Italian Restaurant in Jackson was one of many catering to mom on her special day.
Business more than doubles as she gets this Sunday off from preparing the meal to sit down and enjoy time with the family.
The restaurant rolls out the red carpet offering a unique free beverage during the Mother's Day Brunch and Dinner.
"Please be with your mother and enjoy her while you can," said Katherine Butler of Mendenhall.
Thomas and Angie Millis of Mendenhall brought Butler to the Jackson eatery for her Mother's Day feast.
Being with her daughter and son-in-law is especially important this year.
"I lost my mother a few months ago and this was their way of you know showing me how much I'm loved and appreciated and it's really helped me get through today," said Butler.
"It just means a lot to get to bring my mother-in-law and wife out and show them a good time and show them how much we all appreciate them," said son-in-law Thomas Millis.
Whether mother is still with you or not, her love will always be remembered.
Families brought flowers to mother, grandmother and the women who touched their lives at Autumn Woods Memorial Gardens in Jackson.
"I lost my mother in 2007 and my father in 2007," said Annette Lowe after placing a new bouquet on the headstone.
Her parents were married 65 years.
Every Mother's Day and throughout the year she brings flowers to her mother, Grace Gibson's, grave.
The Jackson resident also places them on her father Joe Lee Gibson and sister Mary Ann Poindexter's graves.
"My mother's been so good to the family, love and not just the family, church, neighbors and everybody. she was a good mother everybody would live to have the mother I had," said Lowe.
The cemetery was filled with families reflecting on the fond memories of their mothers.
Three women held hands and bowed heads over their mother's grave.
Others stood in silence remembering the love of a woman who shaped their lives.
It's sometimes a heart wrenching ritual each second Sunday in May.
