"Click it or ticket" campaign kicks off

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

We've all heard the phrase "Click It or Ticket." It's a national effort to encourage drivers and passengers to buckle up!

In 2010 there were 641 fatalities on roads and highways in Mississippi. Sixty-two percent of those who died in those wrecks weren't buckled up.

During the "Click It or Ticket" campaign, officers will triple check to make sure you're wearing your seatbelt. If you're caught not buckled up, be prepared to pay a fine.

The annual two week "Click It or Ticket" crackdown has resulted in more than three million seatbelt citations over the past five years across the country.

Monday's "Click It or Ticket" kick-off will take place at 2 p.m. at the Mississippi Department of Public Safety headquarters in Jackson.
