The Mississippi Highway Patrol's Bureau of Investigation is investigating two fatal shootings on north Mississippi highways last week.
Tuesday around 1:30 a.m., 74-year-old Thomas K. Schlender of Nebraska was found dead in his vehicle in the median of southbound Interstate 55 in Panola County.
Friday around 2:15 a.m., 48-year-old Lori Anne Carswell of Hernando was found in her vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 713 in Tunica County near Interstate 69.
Authorities believe someone could be posing as a law enforcement officer and that is how these vehicles are ending up on the side of the road, said Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Director Lt. Col. Larry Waggoner.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone who has information may call 1-888-827-4637.
MHP said if you are concerned and it isn't obvious that a law enforcement officer is pulling you over, you can call 9-1-1 or *47.
