Fallen officers honored

At 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday the Jackson Police Department will host a memorial service in memory of the department's fourteen fallen officers. The vigil will be followed by the "2012 Police Appreciation and Memorial Luncheon" at the Mississippi Trademart.

Two Mississippi officers are included in the list of 166 officers who died in the line of duty nationwide in 2011. During the "Police Appreciation and Memorial Luncheon," Madison Police Department Senior Patrol Officer Jimmy Brooks, Sr. will be honored. Brooks was killed on March 23, 2011 in a motorcycle accident.

Grenada Police Department Captain John Wayne Haddock will be recognized as well. Haddock was intentionally struck on I-55 on October 7, 2011. Haddock was putting placing stop sticks out to end the pursuit of a vehicle traveling more than 100 miles per hour

The "2012 Police Appreciation and Memorial Luncheon" begins at 11:30 a.m.
