JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A south Jackson man called 3 On Your Side after years of trying to get an absent homeowner and the city of Jackson to do something about an abandoned property.
The house is located at 119 McCluer Road, just west of the intersection of Terry and McCluer roads.
The front yard of the house is all grown up and unsightly in appearance. A next door neighbor has agreed to cut it, but not for the amount of money the homeowner is willing to pay. The man who called us, Terry Stevenson, who lives two houses down at 107 McCluer Road, told us this house belongs to Willis Crawford, who lives in Orlando, Florida.
Stevenson says despite numerous attempts, he can't get the city or the homeowner to do anything about the condition of the property.
"It's been a constant thing for the last four or five years. The gentleman that owns the house won't abide by the rules of getting his yard cut, he has been cited many times and I have been back and forth with him and the yard might get cut, well it got cut one time last year. It's been cut one time in probably the last three or four years," said Stevenson.
We have brought the situation to the attention of City of Jackson spokesman Chris Mims, who promised to look into the situation and get back to us. When we told him the house was owned by somebody who lives out of state, he said, that's probably the problem.
The City of Jackson says it has an active case against that property and it should be cleaned within the next 60 days.
